Difference between cohesive and non-cohesive Soil

Generally in field we are encountered two types of soil called cohesive and cohesionless soil.

COHESIVE SOIL: Soil grains are fine (0.06 mm) and closely integrated and sticky, soft when saturated and hard in dry state. Soils have water holding capacity, has high moisture content. The foundation level generally should be placed more than 2m in such type of soils from OGL. These soil have low SBC and plastic in nature.

NON-COHESIVE SOIL: Soil grains are not fine (0.06 to 200 mm), not closely integrated. These types of soil have low water holding capacity, water flow out due to high permeability, non-plastic in nature. Soils are good for foundation. Non-cohesive soils are generally contains sand, gravels, rock fragments with low clay content. This type of Soil is also known as cohesionless soil.
